Early last month, in March 2021, the National Association of Japanese Canadians (NAJC) Anglican Healing Fund Committee (AHFC) met with representatives of the Anglican Church of Canada and the Anglican Dioceses of New Westminster and Calgary. The NAJC AHFC listened to a proposal from the ACC representatives to transfer a sum of money to be administered by the NAJC to go towards a Healing Fund for survivors of G.G. Nakayama's clergy sexual abuse.
The Anglican Church of Canada has authorized $610,000 to contribute to a Healing Fund for Japanese Canadians and the Anglican Church has agreed to finance the costs of retaining on a contract basis a Facilitator / Project Manager to oversee the Healing Fund, who will be jointly selected by the Anglican Church and the National Association of Japanese Canadians. The $610,000 will go towards three main areas of support: counselling support for survivors and their family members struggling with the effects of intergenerational trauma, community healing initiatives, and education grants for survivor family members.
Additional sums of money may be contributed to the Healing Fund in the future.
